Pontoon is an Obscure, Yet Simple Card Game with Great Pay Outs
ByAs far as card games go, pontoon is one of the funniest; yet it is also one of the most obscure. The ironic thing is most people probably know how to play it, despite never having heard of it. If you’ve never heard of pontoon before, then there’s a chance you still know how to play it, just as long as you know how to play Blackjack. Why? Because these two types of card games are very similar to each other.
In pontoon, your objective would be to get as close as 21 as possible, without busting. You also have to defeat the dealer. Pontoon is usually played with two decks, with each one being reshuffled after every single hand. Still, each casino has its own rules concerning the decks, whether the game is being played online or offline.
At the beginning of both of these card games you’ll be dealt with two initial cards. You can choose to stand or take another hand. If you’re familiar with Blackjack, you probably can figure the rest of the similarities out. What about their differences? Well, in pontoon, if there’s a push (tie), the dealer wins. If you have a 21, but more than five cards, the dealer wins. If the dealer has a 21 with five cards or less, he/she also wins. Doesn’t sound all that far, does it?
Still, pontoon is a card game worth playing due to the fact that it has a nice payout. Whenever you “Pontoon!” (Get a twenty-one with your first two cards) and the dealer doesn’t tie with you, your payout will be 2-1! You can also get a 2-1 payout if you have less than five cards that equal to twenty-one and the dealer doesn’t tie with you.
Out of all the different types of card games out there, Pontoon and Blackjack are two of the easiest. While Pontoon may have stricter rules, it does offer a better payoff. If you ever want to play, good luck!
