The Evolution of Some of the Most Popular Games in the World
ByThe history of card games is so diverse that it’s impossible to pinpoint an actual origin. Almost every culture that’s ever existed has used some type of card or another. Some ancient cultures used cards for fortune telling as well as for playing. Card games such as Poker have so many origin stories that nobody will probably ever know where they really came from. Poker allegedly was once played by the ancient Chinese, medieval European crusade knights, ancient Roman gladiators, etc.
Baccarat is another card game with debatable origins. Some say it was invented by sixteenth century French while others say Italians. Either way, at least the continent and century are narrowed down somewhat, unlike with Poker. More likely than not, however, Baccarat was invented by the Italians, as was Bingo in its first incarnation.
Speaking of card game history, Bingo was once played as a lottery by wealthy Italian and French royals. The popularity eventually reached Britain and then finally to the US about 120 years ago. Some of the most famous card games were brought to the US by European settlers, and spread throughout the Southern and Western US states by Mississippi steamboat workers and gold seekers respectively. Eventually, they were introduced to a wider audience once gambling was legalised and Vegas casinos were up and running.
These days, all different types of card games are played throughout the world, both in gambling establishments and the internet. Online casinos and gaming websites have successfully brought countless games to the World Wide Web to be shared and enjoyed by players across the globe. Some enjoy simply sitting down and playing a fun game or two while others play to win. Adults can gamble if they want, and kids can play online card games for fun and even learning. Card games can bring different things to different people, and that fact is probably why they’ve always been so popular.
